A lovely sunny day with a gentle breeze. Blue skies but no green grass. As the day went on it got very hot. The Judge for the day was Mrs. J. Barry, all the way from Ross-shire, Scotland.
Entries were low in the Ridden with only two entries in the Leading Rein class. First prize and Ridden Champion went to K. Hodge’s pony Firle Jimbo which was ridden beautifully by her six year old Granddaughter Millie Hodge. Second prize and Reserve Champion went to Mrs. C. Watmore’s pony, Foxsedge Hathor again ridden beautifully by her 4 year old Daugther Eilidh Watmore.
Young Handler classes saw a few more entries. Eight Handlers in total. So nice to see the next generation taking part. Champion Young Handler came from the 9 – 14 year old class which went to Harvey Fletcher-Hodge. The Reserve Champion came from the Younger class 3 – 8 year old which was won by Harvey’s young sister Millie Hodge.
The majority of the In Hand classes had good entries. The Standard Junior Champion went to Mr. D. Hodge and Mr. J. Walters homebred 2 year old Filly, Blackertor Raspberry Beret. The Reserve Champion went to another homebred 3 year old Gelding Kalmara Cloudy Genesis, bred by K. Hodge.
Now for the Miniature Junior Championship. The Champion came from the 2 or 3 year old class which was won by Mrs. T. Ridgers with her homebred 2 year old Filly Wotknotts Alicia. The Reserve went to the yearling Colt Halstock Desert King exhibited by H. Jeans.
The Adult classes saw some very good entries, especially in the two Mare classes. The Newcomer/Owner class had five entries. The winner was Mrs. A. Rix with her 5 year old Gelding Jackmans Tango in the Night. The last class of the day was the Veteran Class. This went to Sophie Luscombe’s 16 year old grey Mare Firle Moonshadow.
Now for the Championships. First of all was the Gelding Championship which went to K. Hodge’s beautifully turned out Standard black Gelding Firle Jimbo. Closely followed for the Reserve Champion was the lovely Miniature Gelding Pansis Crunchie, owned by Mrs. T. Waterhouse.
The Overall Miniature Championship was won by the Junior Champion, Wotknotts Alicia shown by Mrs. T. Ridgers. Reserve Champion came from the Mare class, Halstock Lady Katrina, a nice piebald Mare owned and shown by T. Stephens.
Overall Standard Champion also came through from the Junior Championship. The chestnut 2 year old Filly, Blackertor Raspberry Beret of Mr. D. Hodge and Mr. J. Walters. Reserve Champion came from the Mare class, 10 year old brood Mare Sharptor Tiffany with Foal at foot. Another win for Mr. D. Hodge and Mr. J. Walters.
To end the day of course was the Supreme Championship. Mrs. Barry had some difficult decisions to make. Her choice for the Supreme went to the Overall Standard Filly Blackertor Raspberry Beret, closely followed by the Brood Mare Sharptor Tiffany. What a day for the Blackertor and Sharptor Studs.
